The Rangers lost to the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games after coming within one strike of clinching the Series twice in Game 6.

Rangers spokesman John Blake told The Associated Press on Saturday that the team decided before the Series began that no party should be held if they lost this year. Blake said the team’s expectations were higher, ”and if we didn’t win, we didn’t think it merited it.”

St. Louis (KSDK/CNN) – While Cardinal Nation is celebrating its 11th World Series Championship, Texas Rangers fans are in disbelief after their team came up short in the fall classic for the second year in a row.

The Rangers were within one strike of the championship in game six, but of course the Cardinals made a remarkable comeback. Fans gathered at bars in the Dallas area Friday night, hoping the Rangers would seal the deal in Game 7, but they were left disappointed.

“I’ve been a Rangers fan for 25 years you know, you thought you had it in your grasp and it’s gone. Nobody has anything left,” said one Rangers fan.

The headline on the front page of the Dallas Morning News Saturday morning read “Classic Heartbreak.”

The Fort Worth Star Telegram featured a prophetic headline, “Not in the Cards.”

The Texas Rangers loss the 2010 World Series to the San Francisco Giants.
