Rangers’ ailing Lee returns, team signs Prior

Cliff Lee returned to the Texas Rangers on Friday after spending the previous two days in Dallas, hoping that a cortisone shot in his ailing back will help him get back to his dominating self.

Francisco to have MRI after straining ribcage

Rangers reliever Frank Francisco made his first appearance in six days, but it did not last long. Francisco faced just two batters on Friday night during the Rangers' 7-3 win over the A's before being pulled from the game because of a strained ribcage muscle, and he will have an MRI on Saturday.

Rangers score early and often to top A's

David Murphy had a two-run double, Josh Hamilton went 3-for-3 and starter Tommy Hunter allowed three runs over 7 2/3 innings for his 11th win as the Rangers topped the A's, 7-3, on Friday night.

Vlad starting to heat up at the plate

The Rangers are starting to get excited again about what Vladimir Guerrero is showing at the plate. He had home runs on both Wednesday and Thursday night, and went into Friday's game hitting .346 with three home runs and nine RBIs in his past 13 games.

Rangers would have welcomed Manny

The fact that the Rangers put in a waiver claim on Dodgers outfielder Manny Ramirez did not cause much of a ripple in the clubhouse. The Chicago White Sox also claimed Ramirez and, since they have a worse record than the Rangers, they were awarded him on Friday afternoon.

Nippert, Kinsler continue to progress

Dustin Nippert is scheduled to pitch one inning for Double-A Frisco on Friday night. Nippert has been on the disabled list with a head injury since July 20 after getting hit by a line drive in Detroit.

C.J. Wilson didn't receive much run support Friday, but he didn't need it, as he struck out 12 O's in 8 2/3 shutout innings for a 2-0 win that snapped the Rangers' four-game losing streak.

Hamilton feels OK despite mini slump

If his current 0-for-11 slump is troubling Josh Hamilton, it's not apparent. Asked Friday afternoon if he was worried about going hitless in three consecutive games for the first time since April, the Rangers outfielder shrugged off the drought in good-natured fashion.

Hamilton making charge in AL MVP race

Josh Hamilton's performance in Friday night's 10-9 victory over the Red Sox was certainly a tour de force. Maybe it doesn't make him the best player in the game, but it certainly does advance his candidacy for AL MVP.
