Young trade to come in days

Texas Rangers infielder Michael Young was assured by the team he would be traded in coming days, Tim Brown of Yahoo!Sports reported.

Young has grown frustrated that his role on the team has shrunken in recent years. The Rangers have been in talks with the Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Angles, the Rockies being a more likely destination for Young.

Young trade to come in daysThird baseman Michael Young has been assured by the Rangers that he will be trade in the coming days. The Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Angels are both suitors.

Brown reports that both teams would ask for salary relief if they took on Young’s contract, which is scheduled to pay him $48 million in the next three seasons.

When the Rangers signed Adrian Beltre at third baseman, Young’s position within the infield became uncertain. He had already made a move from shortstop to third base and figured to be a DH for the Rangers after Beltre’s acquisition.

Running low on time today, i’ll be back tomorrow hopefully with some more news.

Money complicates Rockies’ interest in Michael Young

The Texas Rangers haven’t contacted the Colorado Rockies recently about a deal involving infielder/DH Michael Young, according to The Denver Post.

However, Colorado would be ready to talk if that call came.

Money complicates Rockies' interest in Michael YoungThe Rockies would like to add Michael Young as a second baseman and a top-of-the-lineup batter. But his contract could be a roadblock.

According to the newspaper, the Rockies would like to add Young as a second baseman and a top-of-the-lineup batter. However, Young’s salary could be a roadblock to any trade. He is owed $48 million over the next three seasons, and that is more salary than the Rockies can take on. Therefore, Texas would have to pay a sizable portion of Young’s salary, and The Denver Post speculated that is unlikely.

On Friday, ESPN.com reported the Rangers recently decided to revisit the idea of trading Young. Just a week earlier, team president Nolan Ryan, while speaking at a luncheon, announced that Young would be Texas’ DH on opening day.

When the Rangers signed third baseman Adrian Beltre in January, Young became an expensive spare part. But with Vladimir Guerrero gone, Young assumed the DH duties. Late last month, the Rangers acquired Mike Napoli, who can catch, play first base and serve as a DH. Thus, Young became even more expendable.

The Rangers and Rockies discussed a deal involving Young earlier this offseason, but FOXSports.com reported Texas backed out of the trade at the last minute.

Barring a trade, the Rockies will enter spring training with four candidates to start at second base: Jonathan Herrera, Jose Lopez, Chris Nelson and Eric Young Jr.

Meanwhile, Young is expected to serve primarily as the Rangers’ DH this season, though he can play any infield position.

Not much else going on in the MLB planet today.
