People keep bringing it up, and the Rangers front office folks keep sticking to their story.

The Texas Rangers are ready to roll with Mitch Moreland as the team’s starting first baseman of the future, and normally, that would be just fine.

Moreland is a good, young player who hit a bad slump after the all-star break last year before it was made public after the season that he had been playing through a wrist injury that required surgery.

But the Rangers have a chance to get a transcendent first baseman who is at the very beginning of his prime, and at least one national columnist says Fielder to the Rangers makes perfect sense.

We’ve learned over recent days that the Rangers might not have as much money as we were all led to believe heading into the Winter Meetings with money tied up in Chuck Greenberg and other ventures.

But just imagine Fielder’s left-handed power bat in Rangers Ballpark and that short right-field porch. If you’re a Rangers fan, you should be salivating by now.

A meat of the order involving Fielder, Josh Hamilton, Adrian Beltre, Nelson Cruz and Mike Napoli would be right up there with the scariest lineups in the history of the game.

As Joe Sheehan points out, the Rangers are really the only logical fit in the league for a guy like Fielder — a team that is ready to win now, has roster space, has money and is ready to be put over the top. It seems as though the Rangers’ biggest competition on the Fielder front are teams like the Seattle Mariners (bad team, huge park) and the Baltimore Orioles, who aren’t close to being ready to contend in the AL East.

ARLINGTON (November 1, 2011) –Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre has been selected the winner of the 2011 Rawlings Gold Glove Award at his position, as announced late this evening by the Rawlings Sporting Goods Company. It is his third career Rawlings Gold Glove Award.

The Rawlings Gold Gloves are presented for defensive excellence in voting conducted by American League managers and coaches. Staff members may not vote for players on their own teams.

Beltre is the first Ranger to earn a Gold Glove since Michael Young won his lone career honor as a shortstop in 2008. Beltre becomes just the second Texas player ever to win a Gold Glove Award at third base, joining Rangers Hall of Famer Buddy Bell, who took the honors in six consecutive seasons from 1979-84. He is just the 11th different player to win a Gold Glove Award with Texas, joining Bell and current first base coach Gary Pettis as the only players to take the honors in their first season with the Rangers.

Beltre has now won the American League Gold Glove at third base in three of the last five years (also 2007 and 2008 with Seattle), and ends the two-year reign of Tampa Bay’s Evan Longoria at the position. Beltre is the 16th third baseman (both leagues) to win the award at least three times in a career, one of seven players to do it in the American League.

Beltre ranked second among A.L. qualifiers with a .965 (11 E/208 TC) fielding percentage, the fourth-best figure of his career, as he posted the second-lowest error total in his career (10 errors in 2004). He ranked third in the league with 2.86 total chances per 9 innings and did not commit an error in his final 41 regular season games.

Texas has now had a Gold Glove winner in two of the last five seasons (2007-11), this after a Rangers player was on the Gold Glove Team for 16 consecutive years from 1992-2006. Ian Kinsler was a finalist in this year’s Gold Glove balloting, but the Rangers have still never had a second baseman win the award.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) – The Texas Rangers clinched their second straight division title on Friday, and celebrated well into the night.

The AL West champions went back to work on Saturday, and they still had plenty in reserve.

David Murphy had two RBIs and the Rangers’ patchwork lineup finished with 14 hits in a 7-3 victory over Felix Hernandez and the Seattle Mariners.

Regulars Ian Kinsler, Josh Hamilton, Adrian Beltre, Nelson Cruz, Elvis Andrus and Mike Napoli were in the dugout for the middle game of the series, and Texas really didn’t need them.

“I want to get one thing straight. When I put nine guys out there that’s on my roster, I expect to win,” Rangers manager Ron Washington said. “Hernandez pitched today, we didn’t play our best guys. So we weren’t supposed to win. But it didn’t happen. We can play.”

Esteban German and Andres Blanco each had three hits for Texas, which has won six of seven. Reliever Scott Feldman (2-1) allowed three runs and five hits in four innings to get the victory.

Rangers rookie Leonys Martin made his first big league start. The Cuban center fielder had two hits and scored twice.

“It’s a testament to our depth,” Murphy said. “Guys hadn’t played in a while. It was a solid offensive effort.”

Hernandez was forced out of the game when Michael Young’s liner went off his right forearm during the Rangers’ six-run fourth inning.

The Rangers had already scored four times in the fourth when Hernandez (14-14) was struck with one out. The reigning AL Cy Young Award winner fell to the ground as the ball caromed toward third base for a single.

Hernandez was attended to by a team trainer, and was soon walking to the dugout, grimacing in pain and done for the day. The right-hander was charged with seven runs, five earned, and 12 hits in his shortest outing since he pitched 3 1-3 innings in an 8-0 loss to the Los Angeles Angels on May 7, 2010.

“I called him, he said he was fine,” Young said. “I have a lot of respect for him.”

Said Hernandez: “That was scary. Nothing’s broke. I was trying to catch (the ball). I’ve been hit before, but not in my arm. It hurt! They were hitting pretty good pitches. They were finding a lot of holes. Then they found me.”

The Rangers trailed 2-1 heading to the bottom of the fourth, but that didn’t last long. German and Endy Chavez had RBI singles and Murphy followed with a two-run single.

After Young’s drive knocked out Hernandez, Jeff Gray threw wildly to the plate while trying to record a forceout at home. Two more runs scored on the error, giving Texas a 7-2 lead.

“It was one of our worst games, if not the worst,” Seattle manager Eric Wedge said. “It was unacceptable. It was ugly. That’s not what I’m about and not what we’re about. I don’t care if you have three games left or 103 games left, that’s unacceptable.”

With four games remaining, the Rangers still have goals. They are competing with Detroit for the AL’s second-best record, with the winner receiving home-field advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

Texas took the lead in the second when Martin doubled and scored on Blanco’s single.

The Mariners responded with two runs in the fourth. Mike Carp had a sacrifice fly and Justin Smoak singled in a run.

Rangers starter Alexi Ogando pitched two perfect innings before he was lifted for Feldman. Ogando, the team’s No. 5 starter, is probably ticketed for the bullpen in the postseason when the Rangers go to a four-man rotation.

Ogando made his first start since Sept. 15 when he threw six shutout innings in a win over Cleveland. The Rangers have given the converted reliever extra rest down the stretch after he easily surpassed his career high for innings.

For now, Washington won’t reveal his playoff plans for Ogando.

“We felt like he did everything we needed to see,” Washington said. “We got some decisions to make. We haven’t totally made them yet.”

With a comfortable lead, the Rangers also were able to look at three relievers besides Feldman as Washington tries to finalize his bullpen for the playoffs. Yoshinori Tateyama, Darren O’Day and Michael Kirkman all pitched an inning.

“It worked out perfect,” Washington said. “It all fell into place.”

NOTES: Before the game, the Rangers raised the division flag high above the ballpark in left center. … Washington said Cruz would play the outfield on Sunday for the first time since returning from the disabled list on Sept. 13. Since then, Cruz has been used as a DH and pinch hitter to protect a tender left hamstring. … Wedge said OF Casper Wells is “pretty much out for the season” because of an equilibrium problem. … Wedge said Smoak would play 1B on Sunday after serving as DH in his last two games. Smoak has been limited by a groin injury. … Seattle C Miguel Olivo banged his right knee into the brick wall behind home plate after chasing a foul popup in the fourth. Olivo was down for a few minutes but remained in the game. … The Rangers are 14-4 against the Mariners this season.

ARLINGTON, Tex. — Give the Texas Rangers credit for creativity when it comes to celebrations.

ARLINGTON, Tex. — Give the Texas Rangers credit for creativity when it comes to celebrations.

Last year the Texas Rangers made ginger ale the way to do things when they won in the playoffs.

Friday night it was the home-run trot.

Texas shortstop Elvis Andrus put an emphatic stamp on the team’s second consecutive AL West championship when he circled the bases following Oakland’s David DeJesus hitting an insurance home run in the A’s 3-1 victory over the Los Angeles Angels.

That Oakland victory, which followed the Rangers’ 5-3 victory over Seattle earlier, started the kind of celebration fans in Arlington are getting used to.

First the Rangers celebrated with ginger ale and their fans on the field. Thousands of fans stayed to watch the Angels lose and see their team celebrate at Rangers Ballpark. Then it was onto the clubhouse where beer, champagne, ketchup, mustard and baby powder were flowing freely in the clubhouse following the clincher.

So was a sense that the Rangers are once again on the verge of something special.

“The best feeling in the world is this right here when you get to celebrate in the clubhouse,” Michael Young said. “You get to celebrate with your teammates after so much hard work. We get an opportunity now to go the postseason and hopefully win a championship.”

The Rangers are a dangerous team right now.

Less than two weeks ago their lead was a game-and-a-half over the Angels with the season-ending series in Anaheim looming large. But like a team that’s been through this saga before is supposed to do, the Rangers responded by winning four consecutive games and eight of nine to take charge of the division.

Friday’s victory gave them nine victories in the last 11 games and continued a trend of peaking at the right time.

The victory also proved what Texas manager Ron Washington had already known about his club — it is the best team in the West.

“These guys are some of the greatest guys in the game of baseball,” Washington said. “They set a tone for what they wanted to do in February and I’ll be damned if they didn’t reach it. Now we’ve got an opportunity to get back to the playoffs and possibly get back to the World Series.”

Washington said this regular season was different because the Rangers were targeted team in the West all season long. And while they were pushed by the Angels, the Rangers didn’t wilt and won the franchise’s fifth division title.

There is no secret about how the Rangers won the West. They are a complete team, as they showed Friday.

The Rangers hit three more homers and have hit 37 home runs in September. Texas, which is tied with Detroit for the second-best record in the AL, leads the majors in batting average in the month and trails only Detroit in runs scored.

The Rangers won the division with pitching, as Matt Harrison’s 14th victory on Friday pushed the rotation win total to 72, which trails only Philadelphia in the majors.

“This has been the same club since the day Wash took over five years ago,” general manager Jon Daniels said. “The talent’s different, but the message has gotten through. His clubs never panic whether the lead is seven, eight or back down to one. These guys always knew they had a job to do the next day. I know it sounds cliché, but that’s really how he goes about it, how they go about it. They take on his personality and now they’re reaping the benefits of it.”

Texas pushed all the right buttons this season, signing Adrian Beltre and trading for Mike Napoli. Texas also made deadline moves for pitchers Mike Adams and Koji Uehara, each of whom pitched in Friday’s victory.

Beltre also hit a two-run homer Friday, and was able to celebrate with his teammates knowing his made the right move in signing with the Rangers in the offseason.

“I knew we had a good defense, good offense and good pitching,” Beltre said. “I knew this was the best chance for me to get a ring.”

It certainly was the right place to come and celebrate.

ARLINGTON, Tex. — Give the Texas Rangers credit for creativity when it comes to celebrations

Gotta run!.

The Texas Rangers try to get one step closer to winning a
second straight American League West title this evening when they open a
three-game series with the Oakland Athletics at the Coliseum.

The Rangers come into tonight’s opener holding a five-game lead on the Los
Angeles Angels of Anaheim with a magic number of five to clinch the division.

Texas won for the sixth time in seven tries on Sunday, as Adrian Beltre hit a
two-run homer to back 6 2/3 scoreless innings from Matt Harrison, helping
Texas defeat the Seattle Mariners, 3-0.

Harrison (13-9), who gave up six hits, won his third straight start for the
Rangers. The Rangers have five pitchers, all starters, with at least 13
victories in 2011 for the first time in franchise history.

“He kept the ball down, did a good job of changing speeds,” Rangers manager
Ron Washington said of Harrison. “He handled the left-handers pretty good
today in that lineup and got us where we needed to get in that game.”

Elvis Andrus went 3-for-5 with an RBI double for the victors. He extended his
hitting streak to 12 games.

Heading to the hill for Texas tonight will be lefty Derek Holland, who is 14-5
with a 4.02 ERA. Holland won his third straight decision on Wednesday against
Cleveland, as he allowed a run and six hits in seven innings.
Holland beat the A’s the last time he faced them and is 2-1 in eight games
(five starts) against them with a 2.03 ERA.

Oakland, meanwhile, will counter with righty Rich Harden, who is 4-3 with a
4.76 ERA. Harden lost to the Angels on Wednesday, as he surrendered three runs
and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings.
Harden, who pitched for the Rangers last season, is 5-3 lifetime against his
former team with a 4.78 ERA in 14 games, 13 of which have been starts.

Oakland split a four-game set with the AL Central-champion Detroit Tigers over
the weekend, but dropped a 3-0 decision to Justin Verlander in Sunday’s
finale.
Guillermo Moscoso (8-9) lost despite giving up only one hit — an Austin
Jackson homer to lead off the sixth.
It wound up being Moscoso’s last frame. He walked two while fanning eight.

“He threw the ball really well,” A’s manager Bob Melvin said of his starter’s
performance. “You know when you go out there against a guy like Verlander,
you’re going to have to pitch well and you’re going to have to keep runs to a
minimum. And he did.”

Texas is 11-5 versus the A’s this season.

That’s all the news for today.

SEATTLE — Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington was scheduled to spend Monday evening at the Oakland premiere of “Moneyball,” the true story of how Brad Pitt smote the ground, discovered advanced statistics and waved his magic visor over a ragamuffin group to turn the Oakland A’s from misfits to winners.

Among lots of details bound to be omitted for the art of filmmaking: the A’s ability to help themselves by owning AL West opponents in head-to-head competition.

Maybe they can adapt that for the Rangers’ movie, if that story ever gets told.

With a 3-0 win over Seattle on Sunday, the Rangers enter the final 10 days of the season with a commanding 4 ½-game lead in the AL West. They do so because they have pummeled their intradivision opponents. Sunday’s win was the Rangers’ 32nd inside the division, the most for the team since the AL realigned into three divisions in 1994.

“This is how you win the division,” said Washington, who watched the A’s post the best intradivision winning percentage (.565) among West teams over his last six seasons in Oakland. “You dominate in the division. That’s how you get to the playoffs. I said it to these guys in spring training and I didn’t need to say it again. They know what they need to do.”

The difference in record vs. the West accounts for the difference in the standings. While the Rangers are 32-16, Los Angeles is only 26-25. Virtually all of the difference can be accounted for in second-half play. The Rangers, who started the second half by winning five straight against AL West teams, are 19-7 vs. the division since the break; the Angels are 13-14.

The Rangers play each of their final nine games within the division, including the last three at Los Angeles. Those three are the Angels’ only three intradivision games remaining.

The reason for this domination was on display again Sunday. It’s all about the pitching. The six-hit shutout on which Matt Harrison, Koji Uehara, Mike Adams and Neftali Feliz combined lowered the Rangers’ ERA within the division to 3.12. It is the lowest season ERA by an AL West team in the division since the 1994 realignment. The previous best? Well, that would be last year’s Rangers at 3.27.

Harrison pitched around a first-inning jam created by a Michael Young error and a single, then used what he said was his best curveball of the season to smother the weak Mariners, and in particular their left-handed hitters, over six innings. A two-run homer by Adrian Beltre, his seventh home run in his last eight games (32 at-bats), provided all the offense necessary.

When Harrison got into trouble in the seventh by allowing a leadoff single, a one-out walk and a two-out infield single to Ichiro Suzuki, homer-prone Uehara came in to get Luis Rodriguez to strike out on an effective split-finger fastball. The single by Ichiro was the only hit Harrison allowed to lefties in 13 at-bats. Uehara got the splitter to drop after weeks of trouble with it staying up in the zone.

Adams and Feliz combined for the final six outs, giving the bullpen 22 consecutive batters retired over the three-game series.

It put away another West team.

“I think we expect to play well against everybody,” Young said. “You want to rack up wins in your own division because it will have a lot of say in how your overall record ends up.”

In the Rangers’ case, those wins keep adding up to what seems an inevitable second consecutive AL West title.

SEATTLE — The Texas Rangers haven’t found themselves in many close games lately with only two this month being decided by less than four runs.

Texas manager Ron Washington expects that to change as the season winds down and the Rangers try to keep a hold on the AL West and earn a spot in the postseason.

The Rangers got their first taste of a tight victory on Saturday night with a 7-6 come-from-behind victory over the Seattle Mariners.

“Every game as we move forward is going to be an adrenaline type situation so it was nice,” Washington said.

Texas had lost the two other close games by one run to both Tampa Bay and Oakland.

Josh Hamilton had four hits, including a homer, and drove in three runs to help Rangers outslug Mariners and extend their division lead to 4 1/2 games over Los Angeles in the AL West. The Angels lost 6-2 to the Baltimore Orioles.

The Rangers offense picked up a struggling Colby Lewis (13-10) and hit three solo home runs off Mariners’ starter Anthony Vasquez in the third inning. Lewis allowed six runs on eight hits over 5 2/3 innings while striking out seven. It was the fifth time this year Lewis had given up six or more runs in a game. He’d taken the loss in each of those outings.

“I felt really good but overall I think I just had a couple brain farts really more than anything,” Lewis said. “I’m glad we won. I’m glad everything worked out the way it did. The Angels lost and we inch closer.”

Elvis Andrus homered into the Mariners bullpen in left field, Hamilton hit a line drive just over the wall down the right field line and Adrian Beltre crushed a first pitch from Vasquez (1-4) off the facade of the upper deck in left field to knot the game at 4-4.

“That was awesome,” catcher Mike Napoli said. “It put us right back in the game. We fell down and the next inning we came up and put three runs up which was huge. Colby held it down for us and gave us a chance to come back and do what we did. It was a good team win tonight.”

A leadoff walk to Gentry chased Vasquez from the game in the top of the fourth inning. After a walk by Ian Kinsler, Andrus singled to load the bases and Hamilton drove in two with a single to right field. Young brought home Andrus with a sacrifice fly as Texas took a 7-4 lead.

“It was nice to get back on track,” manager Ron Washington said. “Last night (Blake) Beavan shut our bats down a little bit so it’s nice once they jumped out front to show what we’re all about and come back and swing the bats and we did that.”

Mike Carp hit a two-run home run off Lewis into the right field seats in the fifth inning to pull Seattle within one.

Neftali Feliz pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his 27th save in 33 chances.

Ichiro Suzuki went 2 for 4 to pass Mickey Mantle and pull even with Pie Traynor for 110th on the all-time hits list with 2,416.

Napoli had three hits on the night including a leadoff double down the left field line in the second inning. Chris Gentry followed with a two-out single to left to score Napoli and give the Rangers a 1-0 lead.

The Mariners jumped on Lewis in the bottom half of the inning. Adam Kennedy and Brendan Ryan each singled and a walk to Trayvon Robinson loaded the bases. Suzuki came through with a bouncing single through the middle of the infield that scored Kennedy and Ryan to give Seattle the lead.

Kyle Seager followed with a double past a diving Michael Young to score two as Suzuki slid in ahead of the throw to the plate to give the Mariners a 4-1 cushion.

“I think there were a lot of guys that swung at the first pitch,” Lewis said. “Maybe they were just trying to get ahead knowing that I was going to get ahead. I don’t know. I felt really good but overall I think I just had a couple brain farts really more than anything.”

Notes: Mariners SS Brendan Ryan left the game in the third inning with neck spasms and is listed as day-to-day. Ryan has ben fighting the issue for much of the last week. … RHP Dan Cortes has a non-displaced fracture in his right hand that occurred in an off-field incident Thursday. The injury will take approximately three weeks to heal and the team’s plan for Cortes to play winter ball should be unaffected. … 1B Justin Smoak is still day-to-day with a groin strain. … RHP Felix Hernandez (14-12, 3.30 ERA) takes on LHP Matt Harrison (12-9, 3.56 ERA) in the series finale on Sunday.

SEATTLE (AP) – The Texas Rangers haven’t found themselves in many close games lately with only two this month being decided by less than four runs.

Sep 16, 2011 – The Texas Rangers quest for a second consecutive AL West crown heads to Seattle on Friday night, as the Rangers open up a three game series against the lowly Mariners.

Headed into Friday’s games, the Rangers hold a three and a half game lead over the second-place Los Angeles Angels. The Angels, like the Rangers, are opening up a series against a weak opponent this weekend as the Orioles play host to the Angels.

C.J. Wilson starts for Texas on Friday night, looking to add to his already career-high win total of 16. Wilson has been phenomenal as of late, allowing just two runs in his last three starts – and no runs in his last two starts. During that three-game span, Wilson has pitched 23 innings, allowing two runs on 12 hits while issuing just five walks and striking out 25.

Wilson’s numbers on the year are fantastic as well. Wilson has eclipsed his career high in WAR, as he’s posted a 5.3 WAR through his first 31 starts. Wilson’s ERA sits comfortably at 3.01, with an xFIP of 3.31. Wilson is also likely to eclipse 200 strikeouts this year as well, as he’s struck out 190 in 209 innings so far on the season.

Texas’ offense will face off against former Ranger farmhand Blake Beaven. Beaven, who is a Texas native, has gone 4-5 in 12 starts for the Mariners, with a 4.32 ERA, .288 BAA and 1.31 WHIP. Beaven, though, does not miss bats, as he’s struck out just 31 in 77 innings.

First pitch in Seattle is scheduled for 9:10 p.m. CDT, 7:10 p.m. locally at Safeco Field.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington thought he had a favorable matchup: righthanded reliever Yoshinori Tateyama against Oakland pinch hitter Scott Sizemore.

Unfortunately for the Rangers, Sizemore liked the 1-0 pitch he saw from Tateyama even more.

Sizemore’s grand slam in the sixth inning helped the A’s end a nine-game skid against Texas with an 8-7 victory over the AL West-leading Rangers on Saturday.

With the score tied at 3, Rangers starter Alexi Ogando (12-8) hit Josh Willingham with a pitch leading off the sixth, and David DeJesus followed with a single. Washington replaced Ogando with left-hander Mike Gonzalez.

Ryan Sweeney attempted to bunt, and Gonzalez made a nice play to get a force at third. After Brandon Allen was retired on a foul popup, Gonzalez walked Kurt Suzuki to load the bases, and Washington again went to his bullpen and brought in the struggling Tateyama.

Sizemore was sent in by manager Bob Melvin to hit for Eric Sogard, and Sizemore ripped Tateyama’s high fastball into the left field seats for his first career grand slam and a 7-3 lead.

“I thought I had the right matchup there, but Sizemore got him,” Washington said.

Cliff Pennington added an RBI double off Tateyama later in the sixth to give the A’s a five-run cushion.

Tateyama also allowed a grand slam to Boston’s Carl Crawford last Saturday at Boston, the final batter he faced in that game. For the first time in Rangers history, a pitcher gave up grand slams to consecutive hitters.

According to research provided to the Rangers by Elias Sports Bureau, the last pitcher to allow grand slams to consecutive batters faced was Greg McCarthy of Seattle in 1998.

In his last five outings, Tateyama has been knocked around for 12 runs and 11 hits and four homers in four innings.

“The location is not there,” the Japanese right-hander said through a translator.

“He’s getting some balls up in the zone, he got that one up to Sizemore,” Washington said.

Adrian Beltre’s 299th career homer — a two-run shot in the sixth off starter Trevor Cahill (11-13) — pulled Texas within 8-5. Michael Young’s two-run single in the seventh off Fautino De Los Santos made it 8-7.

Beltre, who had three hits to extend his hitting streak to 15 games, was the final batter for Cahill, who gave up five runs and seven hits over five-plus innings.

Andrew Bailey pitched the ninth for his 20th save in 22 chances, but it wasn’t easy. Josh Hamilton drew a two-out walk, and Young reached on an infield single, but Beltre lined out to second baseman Adam Rosales to end the game.

Hamilton hit a two-run game-winning homer off Bailey on July 9 and was 3 for 3 for his career against the A’s closer. So Bailey wasn’t going to give the slugger anything he could knock out of the ballpark.

“Obviously, everyone knows he hit the walk-off against me,” Bailey said. “I wasn’t trying to stay away from him or walk him, but I knew I had to be careful.”

Ogando gave up five runs — three earned — and six hits in five-plus innings in his first for the Rangers since Aug. 31. His previously scheduled start was skipped to allow him additional rest.

Ogando had gone 7-0 in his first 12 starts but the converted reliever has had problems with his command, dropping five of his last seven decisions.

“He kept us in the ball game,” Washington said. “He’s coming back. I felt like he did what he had to do.”

Willingham led off the second with a line drive single up the middle that Ogando had to duck to avoid. DeJesus bunted, and catcher Yorvit Torrealba threw wildly to first for an error that allowed the runners to advance to second and third.

Ryan Sweeney followed with a two-run triple into the right field corner, and Suzuki added a sacrifice fly later in the inning for a 3-0 pad.

The Rangers got a run in the third when Kinsler scored from third on Cahill’s wild pitch, and Mitch Moreland’s two-run double in the fourth pulled Texas even at 3.

NOTES: Rangers OF Nelson Cruz ran the bases for a second straight day as he rehabs from a strained left hamstring that put him on the 15-day DL on Aug. 30. The plan is for Cruz to take Sunday off from running on the field, then reevaluate his condition early next week. … Hamilton was back in the lineup after missing Friday night’s game to be with his wife for the birth of their fourth daughter. … Oakland LHP Josh Outman gets a spot start on Sunday, replacing RHP Rich Harden. Rangers ace C.J. Wilson, a 15-game winner, takes the mound for Texas.

Gotta run!.
